What Is AdSense Exactly?
AdSense is a contextual advertising system that is operated by Google. Google runs two main advertising programs. Adwords, which is for people who want to advertise their goods or services and AdSense which is for people with existing websites who want to make some extra money by displaying those advertisements. When you place the AdSense code on your website, the program that is displaying that code examines your web page and sends advertisements that are relevant to the content of your web site. If you look at the left of this page, you will see a block of AdSense advertisements and they will be displaying AdSense related ads. That's not because we added anything to the ad block - it is because the AdSense program has examined this website and determined that ads about AdSense are relevant. How Much Money Can I Make?
That's really up to you and depends on how much time you want to spend learning about the various techniques that can maximise your AdSense income. There are many excellent resources that will help you earn some extra income. The best advice I can give is to avoid anything that seems like it might violate the AdSense Terms of Service (TOS). Google rightly expect you to act responsibly when displaying their advertisements and will terminate your account if you are found to be using deceptive techniques or methods that are in violation of their terms.
To answer the question though, you can make anything from a few cents each month to thousands of dollars per week. It isn't something that will happen overnight though. You really do need to do some study first.
How Do I Get Started?
The easiest way for me to answer that question is to tell you how I got started with AdSense. Obviously the very first thing you need to do is create your AdSense account at the Google website. There's a link on the left that you can click to start the joining process.
Once you have your AdSense account you just need to follow the instructions on the AdSense Setup tab. This is the point at which you might want to consider purchasing some guides and/or tools.
I started out with Michael Cheney's AdSense Videos and AdSense Gold. They're separate products, but basically Michael used the tools from AdSense Gold and then provided a series of instructional online videos which use some of the information and tools from AdSense Gold to really maximise the effect of adsense on his web sites.
Joel Comm is another world renowned expert. After the AdSense videos and AdSense Gold had hooked me on the whole AdSense system I subscribed to Joel's ''Google AdSense Secrets' which is recognized as one of the leading guides on maximizing your AdSense income. If you purchase several products there is no doubt that some of the information will be duplicated, but if you are serious about generating a reasonable income from AdSense then you really need to look at information from more than one expert.
The resources below are the ones that I use personally. I know that they work and that they are good value and I certainly wouldn't be recommending them if they weren't.
It's All A Bit Too Much. I Don't Understand This Stuff!
